DayTimers Bradford

Championing the Sounds, Stories & Voices of South Asian Creative Communities

Supported By

By the 1980s, Bradford was a city facing economic hardship and simmering racial tensions. Yet, beyond the struggles, in modest community centers, school gyms, and shadowy clubs, something remarkable was taking shape. A new generation of British Asians—navigating the space between heritage and modern life—began creating a scene that was uniquely theirs. They were the Bradford Daytimers.

Driven by the rhythms of Bhangra, Bollywood, and breakbeats, they reinvented nightlife by throwing electrifying parties in broad daylight. This underground movement sparked the rise of independent Bhangra labels and a surge of live bands that energized Bradford’s stages. But this was more than just music. It was a declaration of identity. A taste of liberation. And the beginning of a cultural revolution that transformed Asian pop music and rewrote the style codes of a generation.
